You’ve excitedly awaited the arrival of your TurboSwing ski tow bar and it’s just been delivered - now what? It’s time to install your TurboSwing but you’ll need to determine which installation option is right for your boat first.

This portion of the installation process has to do with how your tube holders are attached to the base plates. The goal with any TurboSwing is to align the widest part of your tow bar with the widest part of your motor. Typically, this is accomplished with the standard installation process, however in the case of larger, high-horsepower motors, a standard installation may leave the tow bar out of alignment. In these cases, a reverse installation is used to pull the tow bar closer to the transom and allows your motor to be better positioned in the middle of the TurboSwing. Keep reading to determine the right mounting method for your TurboSwing.

Which Installation Option is Right for You?

No matter which option you choose it’s important that you thoroughly check the clearance around your motor. We always recommend that you trim your motor up and down as well as moving the EZ Pulley™ around the bar to ensure no contact is made between the TurboSwing and your motor’s cowling. This is necessary for every TurboSwing installation, but there are additional measurements you’ll need if you’re deciding how to best mount your tow bar.

To determine whether a standard or reverse mount is needed, we recommend additionally turning your motor left to right and measuring clearance at the most narrow point of the tow bar. If the tow bar interferes with your motor’s cowling in its standard position, a reverse mounted installation will be necessary.

Keep in mind that, based on your motor specs and bar selection, you can consult the TurboSwing Configurator for our recommendation on the best mounting method, but you should always measure for clearance to be sure.

PRO TIP: All Giant TurboSwings should be reverse mounted.

Standard Mounting Your TurboSwing

Standard installation is preferred where possible and is simple to accomplish. If your motor has plenty of room to turn left to right without the possibility of hitting your tow bar, a standard mount is likely the right choice for your boat.

To complete a standard mount, assemble your tube holder according to the included instructions and attach tube holder 1 to the left mounting bracket and tube holder 2 to the right tube holder. In this type of installation, the cylindrical portion of the tube holder should be positioned away from the transom.

Reverse Mounting Your TurboSwing

Completing a reverse installation is just as simple as a standard installation, although there are some key differences to be aware of. The TurboSwing base plates will always go on their designated side (left on the left, right on the right). However, in a reverse mount, you’ll swap the tube holders (1 on the right, 2 on the left) and rotate them 180 degrees so that the bolt holes line up with the base plate. Like a standard installation, the end of your tube holder with extra length should still be at the bottom.

This allows the cylindrical portion of the tube holder to fit closer to the boat’s transom which in turn, pulls the tow bar closer to your boat and allows your motor to sit more comfortably in the widest part of the TurboSwing.

No matter which installation method is required, the TurboSwing installation process is quick and easy. It’s our goal to get you out on the water enjoying your new tow bar in as little time as possible. Or, find the TurboSwing that’s right for your boat below:
